Market open: Sensex up 40 points, Nifty reclaims 10,500
Domestic equity markets opened on a flat note with marginal gains on Thursday following global cues. The BSE Sensex opened 17.05 points, or 0.05 per cent, up at 33,928.86, while NSE Nifty index opened 7.45 points, or 0.07 per cent, up at 10,498.20.
As many as 39 stocks in the Nifty index were trading in green with HindalcoBSE 3.31 % climbing nearly 1 per cent, followed by Zee Entertainment (up 0.74 per cent), Vedanta (up 0.67 per cent), Sun Pharma (up 0.64 per cent) and Aurobindo Pharma (up 0.59 per cent).
On the other hand, Axis Bank, Ambuja Cement, Hero MotoCorp, Bharti Airtel and Wipro were down between 0.50 per cent and 1.51 per cent.
Shares of the Star Cement surged over 5 per cent after the company along with its subsidiary has received Rs 158.82 crore towards capital investment subsidy claims from the Central Government and this amount has been utilised towards repayment of loans.
