Nifty hovers around 10,400 mark; PSU Bank, Metal, IT Index gain | National Stock Exchange

Benchmark indices were trading higher on Tuesday. Today’s gains were seen in index heavyweights such as Tata Consultancy Services, Housing Development Finance Corp and metal companies.


At 1:53 PM, the BSE Sensex was trading at 33,885, up 110 points, while the Nifty50 index was trading at 10,399, up 21 points.

Shares of information technology companies rose today, tracking the weakness in the rupee against the dollar. Shares of Tata Consultancy Services, Infosys, Wipro, HCL Technologies and Tech Mahindra were up 1-2%.

Shares of Vakrangee fell 5% today as New World Fund sold 1.06cr shares or 1% stake in the company at Rs253.27 a piece through a bulk deal on the NSE.

PNB fell for fifth consecutive session after 3 new arrests were made in the fraud case. Gitanjali Gems was locked at another 10% lower circuit, taking total loss to more than 56% in February so far.

Suven Life Sciences announced that the grant of one product patent from India and one product patent from South Korea corresponding to the new chemical entities (NCEs) for the treatment of disorders associated with Neurodegenerative diseases. Stock rose 1.5%.

Volatility index, India VIX down by 0.94% to 16.5100.

Out of 2,016 stocks traded on the NSE, 742 advanced, 883 declined and 391 remained unchanged today.

A total of seven stocks registered a fresh 52-week high in trade today, while 44 stocks touched a new 52-week low on the NSE.

Market Now: BSE Oil & Gas index down 3%; Petronet LNG, HPCL crack 4%

The BSE Oil & Gas index was trading 2.68 per cent down at 15,252 around 12:05 pm (IST) on Tuesday with shares of GAILBSE -4.33 % (India) (down 4.37 per cent) as the top loser.  Shares of Petronet LNGBSE -3.60 % (down 3.96 per cent) , Castrol India (down 3.73 per cent) , Hindustan Petroleum CorporationBSE -3.39 % (down 3.59 per cent) , Indraprastha Gas (down 3.19 per cent) , Reliance IndustriesBSE -2.83 % (down 2.88 per cent) , Indian Oil CorporationBSE -2.24 % (down 2.29 per cent) , Oil and Natural Gas CorporationBSE -2.12 % (down 1.99 per cent) and Bharat Petroleum CorporationBSE -0.97 % (down 1.65 per cent) were also down in the index.  Oil India (up 2.30 per cent) was the only stock that was trading up in the oil & gas index around that time.  Benchmark BSE Sensex was 1,039 points down at 33,719, while the NSE Nifty50 index was 313 points down at 10,353.  All components in the Nifty50 and Sensex index were in the red.

Today's Nifty | Bank Nifty Outlook

Nifty Nifty traded on positive note today. Index surged up and added gains for the day. Nifty-50 futures touched 10470 level, Midcap and small-cap counters gained and moved positive for the day. Following the global cues, index was positive. Auto companies added gains and were seen positive for the day. In further trading session 10510 can be market resistance for index. Bank Nifty Bank Nifty Index saw a positive note for today and gained almost 150 points for the day, while the bulls dominated for the day. Private and PSU players performed well for the day and were seen gaining marginally, Canara Bank traded positive and gained for the day. Next, 24800 can be seen as major resistance for the index.
